Thomas P. O'Brien Named to Joint E-Filing Initiative Work Group

Thomas P. O'Brien III has been named to the Kentucky Court of Justice/Kentucky Bar Association/Administrative Office of the Courts Joint E-Filing Initiative Work Group. The entire Work Group meets quarterly, with subcommittees meeting more frequently, to review and implement best practices for the multi-phased launch of electronic filing in the state courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Mr. O'Brien was nominated by the Kentucky Bar Association as one of several practicing attorneys to the Work Group. Electronic filing will begin in 2008 in pilot counties with a goal of expanding statewide by the end of 2010.
Thomas P. O'Brien III has represented individuals and corporations, large and small, in a variety of areas including patent, trademark and copyright infringement suits, trade secret actions, complex commercial litigation matters, and franchise litigation. Mr. O'Brien was a member of the trial and appellate teams, which resulted in a substantial patent infringement victory and judgment in excess of $31 million, in Minco, Inc. v. Combustion Engineering, Inc., 95 F.3d 1109, 40 U.S.P.Q. 2d 1001 (Fed. Cir. 1996).
More recently, Mr. O’Brien has led litigation teams in federal court proceedings relating to patent, trademark, and copyright infringement actions, as well as misappropriation of trade secrets. Mr. O’Brien’s clients have included international clothing retailers, a national pizza franchiser, national radio and media companies, a casual furniture manufacturer and distributor, and an international sports cover manufacturer.
