This is a unique program developed to give first-year law students exposure to private practice and to a corporate law department setting. Students participating will spend 6 weeks as a summer associate in Frost Brown Todd’s Cincinnati office and 6 weeks at one of our clients’ corporate legal departments. In 2010, Duke Energy Ohio will partner with Frost Brown Todd.
During the first six weeks of the summer, the student will participate in FBT's usual
summer associate program working on a wide variety of legal issues within our firm for various firm clients. For the second half of the summer, the student will transition to working within the legal department of our client-partner in this program. The student will be invited to attend FBT's summer associate training programs and social events while working at the client’s facility, so long as it does not interfere with their work commitments to the client. Past programs have included social events attended by multiple general counsel and other in-house counsel from Fortune 500 and publicly traded companies. We’ve heard from business executives of multi-national organizations on presentations relating to skills they are looking for from their legal counsel. These forums are wonderful opportunities for the students to develop their networking skills with client representatives. In addition, FBT summer associates begin building relationships with their future clients and peers that are working in-house.
