Frost Brown Todd brings innovative summer associate program to Indianapolis

March 10, 2009 – Regional law firm Frost Brown Todd is expanding its unique summer associate program to Indianapolis and eyeing other markets.

Through the program launched almost three years ago in Frost Brown Todd’s Cincinnati offices, law school students finishing their first year sign on as Frost Brown Todd summer associates and divide their time between the firm’s offices and clients’ in-house-counsel departments.

Traditional summer associate programs give students a taste of law firm life while giving law firms the opportunity to appraise students’ abilities. The Frost Brown Todd “first Class” program adds a new dimension to these benefits, giving students exposure to the corporate in-house counsel arena, and giving clients the opportunity to teach students about their company, their business and in-house counsel careers. Clients participating this year include Duke Energy Ohio, Duke Energy Indiana, The Kroger Co. and Scripps Networks Interactive.

In today’s economy, as law firms and in-house law departments look for creative ways to partner and improve the quality of legal services, “first Class” delivers real benefits for them and for law-student recruits.

“This program not only allows us to assess legal talent, but it lets students see the world from the client’s point of view, which helps them give better service and counsel in the future,” said Kimberly S. Amrine, a Frost Brown Todd attorney and the firm’s Director of Diversity. “It also attracts a broader and deeper pool of applicants, supporting our ongoing efforts to hire attorneys from diverse backgrounds and experiences.”

With the program established in Cincinnati and developing in Indianapolis, Frost Brown Todd hopes to expand it into its other markets in the coming years. Participating clients credit the program with helping students understand clients’ needs and appreciate corporate culture and priorities. Students applaud the program for giving them a broader experience and helping them choose a career path.
