Frost Brown Todd Equine Law Attorney Elected President of American College of Equine Attorneys
Noted Equine Attorney Joel B. Turner has been elected to serve as President of the prestigious American College of Equine Attorneys, Incorporated. In his role as the Chief Executive Officer of the “College”, Turner will lead the organization in its efforts to develop and promote continuing legal education opportunities relating to the equine industry, to encourage ethical practices among equine counsel and to serve as a legal resource for parties promoting equine related legislative initiatives across the United States.
Turner comments, “I am very grateful to have been elected to this position by my peers. It is an honor and a wonderful opportunity to serve other lawyers practicing equine law. I earnestly hope to be able to help pass along the knowledge and experience of all the Fellows in the College, many of whom have practiced in the area for more than 25 years, to lawyers with challenges unique to the equine legal practice.”
As the equine law practice group leader and partner of Frost Brown Todd, Turner is involved in a full-range of equine legal services that include; syndicate, co-ownership, partnership, and limited liability company agreements, equine lending documentation, purchase and sale agreements, private and public placements, administrative hearings and appeals, gaming regulatory matters, tax and estate planning, and litigation. He is knowledgeable in racing legislation in the United States and is actively working with horsemen throughout the country to attend to the needs of breeders, owners and trainers. Turner’s knowledge of the horse industry allows him to handle legal problems within that industry efficiently and successfully.
The purpose of the American College of Equine Attorneys is to promote and participate in educational opportunities for the equine industry; provide a panel of mediators and arbitrators who are qualified to mediate or arbitrate issues in the equine industry; to recognize professional achievement and outstanding contributions to the equine industry; to serve as a liaison to industry groups on legal issues; to promote referral network and opportunities in the equine industry; to act as a resource for lawyers about industry professionals such as expert witnesses, appraisers, bloodstock agents, and others; and to promote research and scholarship in the equine industry.
Turner earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from the University of California at Berkeley and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Golden Gate University, cum laude, where he was the associate editor for the Golden Gate University Law Review and was widely published widely on a variety of Equine Law topics.
