Frost Brown Todd Expresses Sympathy in the Passing of One of Its Instrumental Founding Partners

Frost Brown Todd is saddened by the passing of one of its partners, George E. Dudley, on Friday, September 25, 2009. Mr. Dudley was a founding partner of Brown, Todd & Heyburn in 1972, now Frost Brown Todd. Mr. Dudley was the first chair of the Real Estate practice group and served on the firm’s first management committee, which were both instrumental in shaping the firm as it is today.

Most notably, Mr. Dudley was known for his commercial real estate practice. He was a hands-on associate of his client Leroy Highbaugh Jr. in the development of the huge multi–use neighborhood now known as Hurstbourne. Mr. Dudley was also the first Louisville attorney for United Parcel Service and is noted for being key counsel during that time. “I first heard of the new hub coming here from George,” comments Mark Davis a partner at the firm, who understood how close Mr. Dudley was to the company and the project.

He also had extensive experience in chartering national and Kentucky banks. Mr. Dudley represented some of the biggest real estate developers in Kentucky, as well as several national life insurance companies that were and still are lenders in this region today.

Mr. Dudley was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Michigan Law School. He was very active in the community and participated in several leadership positions, such as:
  • Board Member of The Cumberlands
  • Director and President, Kentucky Easter Seals Society
  • Director and 1st Vice President, National Easter Seal Society
  • Board Member, Alliant Health Systems Inc, Adult Operating Board
  • Chairman, Jefferson Community College Advisory Board
  • Member, Frazier Rehabilitation Center Board of Directors
  • Member/Treasurer, Kentucky State Democratic Executive Committee
  • Member and President, Harmony Landing Country Club

Mr. Dudley was with the firm for over 40 years and “His life was rich in experience and family. A wonderful role model, kind friend and gentleman. He was always ‘Mr. Dudley’ to me,” said John R. Crockett III, the firm’s current Chairman. Though Mr. Dudley had been retired from the firm for some time, his legacy is still ever present today.
