CINCINNATI – March 19, 2009 – In the latest of a series of moves designed to position the regional law firm for further growth, Frost Brown Todd has named 37-year-old advertising and media law attorney, Jill P. Meyer, Member-in-Charge of its Cincinnati office.
Meyer will assume her new role immediately, and will work closely with the Firm’s Chairman, John Crockett of Louisville, and Managing Member George E. Yund, who is based in Cincinnati. As Member in Charge, Meyer will be responsible for client development initiatives, civic and charitable involvement, and community outreach in Cincinnati, where the Firm has its largest office.
“Jill brings a unique set of skills and talent to this position,” said Yund. “In addition to being an excellent lawyer, she’s extremely involved in the profession and in the Cincinnati community.”
Crockett added, “Frost Brown Todd is taking a fresh approach as it looks to the future, and Jill is one of the people we are relying on to help lead our Cincinnati office to continued growth and expansion.. We are thrilled that she is willing to assume this very important responsibility in addition to her thriving law practice.”
Meyer came to Frost Brown Todd 13 years ago and has spent her entire career at the Firm. She was instrumental in starting and then growing the firm’s advertising practice.
“Cincinnati is a hotbed of creativity - nationally known advertisers and ad agencies - that were going elsewhere for advertising counsel,” Meyer said. “We wanted to change that, to provide that top-notch legal counsel in this market, and win business that had been going to New York or Chicago. So we increased our level of expertise, focused our resources and built a team that can keep those clients closer to home.”
The initiative has paid off. Companies and agencies throughout the Midwest have shifted their advertising legal work to Frost Brown Todd. Today, the firm has one of the largest advertising practice groups in the region, and it has continued to strengthen this position by adding advertising and media attorneys in its other offices.
“Cincinnati is fortunate to have many Fortune 500 companies,” said Meyer. “And, like with our media and advertising group, they’ve seen that they can get the same legal expertise here in Cincinnati as they can in larger markets, but our Firm’s rates are 25 to 35 percent below those of Chicago and New York. In these tough economic times, that’s significant.”
Cincinnati businesses are experiencing the same economic challenges as businesses across the country, and that presents an opportunity for the Firm to be on the cutting edge.
“We’re in a dynamic environment, and our clients need savvy partners now more than ever,” she said, “We’ve always taken great pride in being partners with our clients, and this economy is presenting us the opportunity to demonstrate how deep our partnership roots can go.”
Meyer will look for new ways to make Frost Brown Todd’s talent and expertise even more relevant to clients and to increase the Firm’s community leadership presence. She has been a member of the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee, and participates in its Women’s Initiative, and Mentoring and Diversity programs.
As a member of the American Bar Association, she has held leadership positions on several national committees, including Chair of the Young Lawyers Division Media Law Committee, vice-chair of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, Media Privacy and Defamation Law Committee, and a member of the ABA’s Women in Communications Law. She also is active with the Cincinnati Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, AdClub Cincinnati, and American Marketing Association.
A Cincinnati native, she is active on numerous civic and professional boards and committees, and currently chairs the Cincinnati Elections Commission and serves as Vice-Chair of the Board for Santa Maria Community Services. A Downtown Cincinnati resident, Meyer also serves on the Board of Trustees for Downtown Cincinnati Inc.
Meyer graduated magna cum laude from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University. She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Mount St. Joseph, where she also graduated magna cum laude. She is admitted to practice in Ohio and Kentucky.
“Jill’s energy and enthusiasm are perfect for our Cincinnati market,” Crockett said. “Cincinnati is vibrant, cutting edge, and breaking new ground. She is an outstanding lawyer who understands the importance of exceptional client service, and will bring the same excellence to the Member in Charge job.”
Frost Brown Todd has more than 450 attorneys with 11 offices in five states. Offices are located in Cincinnati, West Chester and Columbus, Ohio; Louisville, Florence and Lexington, Kentucky; Nashville, Tennessee; Charleston, West Virginia; and New Albany, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana.
