EPA mandate expected to raise Canton sewer rates

U.S. EPA states that ‘numerous basement backups of sanitary sewage and other sanitary sewer overflows’ prompted action

Canton City sewer customers might see an 8.5 percent rate increase each year for the next four years because of an EPA mandate.

Canton City Council will vote Monday whether to authorize the mayor or service director to enter an administrative order on consent with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. If that’s done, the city’s next step would be to await the EPA’s finalized order.
