Mark F. Sommer Appointed Vice-Chair of State and Local Taxes Committee for ABA Section of Taxation
Mark F. Sommer has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the State and Local Taxes Committee for the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Taxation. His two-year term, starting July 1, reflects the recognition he has received by his peers for his abilities and contributions to the work of the Section.
During Sommer’s term, he will have the opportunity to affect the development and administration of the tax laws through the Committee’s programs and projects. He is also in charge of continuing the CLE activities and identifying and grooming potential successors for the Section.
Sommer is a member in Frost Brown Todd’s Regional State and Local Tax and Incentives group. As a highly-sought after attorney in Louisville, he advises his clients on matters regarding state, local and federal taxation, incentives and more. In addition to his new position with the ABA, Sommer serves on the advisory board for numerous organizations such as Multistate Tax Report, Journal of State Taxation and Multi-State Corporate Tax Guide.
The ABA State and Local Taxes Committee is responsible for all substantive state and local tax areas, including corporate income and franchise, gross receipts, personal income, sales and use, property, environmental, and excise taxes. The Committee maintains liaisons with other state and local tax organizations, develops model acts for use by state and local governments, and prepares the Sales and Use Tax Desk Book and Property Tax Manual published by the ABA Section of Taxation.
