Charles B. Galvin
Charles maintains a diverse practice representing both public and private entities throughout Ohio. He has obtained successful results in the form of injunctive and monetary relief at all phases of litigation, including emergency hearings, dispositive motions, trials, and appeals. He leverages his first-chair trial and appellate experience in courtrooms to guide clients away from risk and toward their goals via the most effective resolution of complex legal disputes.
As part of the firm’s Government Services practice group, Charles has developed substantial experience with zoning, eminent domain, land use, taxpayer lawsuits, and constitutional issues. He advises townships, municipalities, school districts, political subdivisions, state agencies, and elected officials in these areas. His knowledge of emerging case law and legislation helps ensure these clients are informed of the most current best practices, minimizing their exposure to litigation while being prepared to defend and enforce their decisions in the best interest of the communities they represent.
Charles has significant experience as part of the firm’s Business Litigation practice group prosecuting and defending a wide range of claims. He has defended grantors and trustees alike in protecting the interests of their beneficiaries against creditors and others seeking access to trust assets. He has successfully pierced the corporate veil on behalf of minority shareholders in closely-held corporations. He is well-versed in Ohio’s Consumer Sales Practices Act, having obtained the maximum amount of punitive damages permitted by statute as plaintiff’s counsel, while securing complete defense rulings as defense counsel. He has also successfully pursued and defended various other statutory, tort, insurance, and breach of contract claims.
Charles is also part of the firm’s Appellate practice group, uniquely qualifying him to spot and preserve issues for appeal. He has helped successfully affirm or reverse trial court decisions in Ohio’s Second, Third, and Twelfth District Appellate Courts, either by drafting briefs or at oral argument. This experience shapes Charles’ strategic guidance from the outset of litigation.
Prior to joining Frost Brown Todd, Charles clerked at the Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School, where he was a member of the Student Bar Association and Barristers Moot Court Team. He competed for the Irish at the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Trial Competition and the American Association for Justice Student Trial Advocacy Competition, helping sweep the first Regional Finalist and Championship titles in school history. He also received the Edward F. Barrett Award for outstanding achievement in the art of trial advocacy.
Prior to attending law school, Charles received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Business from Xavier University. He grew up in West Chester, and spent several years as a certified USA Swimming Coach for the Beckett Ridge Barracudas, Mason Manta Rays, St. Xavier High School, and Ohio Zone Team.
