Charles concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial transactions (including commercial finance, equipment leasing and the sale and distribution of goods), financial restructuring (including bankruptcy), and more recently in information technology and Internet commerce as commercial transactions have evolved toward the Web.

Charles played a significant role on an American Bar Association committee that helped initiate Uniform Commercial Code legislation dealing with the multibillion dollar equipment leasing industry (Article 2A). He was involved as the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (“NCCUSL”) drafted new uniform legislation dealing with the rapidly expanding industries of information technology and Internet commerce (the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act and the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act), and as NCCUSL considered revising Article 2A and the uniform legislation dealing with the even larger sale of goods industry (Article 2).

He practices in the Firm’s commercial transactions and financial restructuring practices which include commercial financing transactions, equipment financing, purchase, sale and distribution of goods, financial restructuring, bankruptcy reorganizations, and creditors rights, and also co-manages the Firm’s practice in Internet commerce and transactions in cyberspace.

Charles is included in the current edition of Woodward/White, Inc., Best Lawyers in America®; and as a Leading Lawyer in Chambers USA® America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
