David E. Kauffman
David is a member at Frost Brown Todd in the personal planning and family business department. He focuses his practice on estate planning, probate, asset protection and business succession planning. He represents individuals, families and business owners to create customized estate and succession plans that achieve their individual, family and business objectives. David is OSBA Certified in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law.
David has served on the Advisory Board for Commerce Clearing House's Journal of Practical Estate Planning and was a regular columnist. Additionally, he teaches a number of Continuing Education Classes for attorneys, accountants and life insurance professionals and has taught workshops for numerous national corporations and has led workshops for Planned Philanthropic Giving. In addition to teaching for national audiences across the country, David has been a regular presenter for regional Ohio Life Underwriter organizations and was a feature presenter for the Statewide conference of the Ohio Association of Life Underwriters.
Experience
Estate Planning, Probate & Trust Administration
Assisting families and business owners with designing, drafting and implementing estate and succession plans. Drafting inter-vivos trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, family partnerships, split interest trusts and wills. Analyzing financial documents, working with financial advisors to coordinate appropriate products.
Retirement Planning
Counseling individuals and business owners on selecting and maintaining appropriate retirement plans. Work with qualified and non-qualified plans.
Asset Protection
Assisting families in creating asset protection plans including use of family partnerships, offshore trusts, and domestic asset protection trusts.
Charitable Planning
Designing, drafting, implementing Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Supporting Organizations and Private Foundations.
Litigation
Extensive Civil Litigation experience including estate, probate, trust, and fiduciary litigation.
Business Succession Planning
Assisting Business Owners with analyzing and establishing appropriate business continuation plans, drafting and executing appropriate contracts.
Tax
Responsible for advising, reviewing, and preparing income and estate tax returns. Representation of tax audits on federal and state level. Advise clients and businesses on tax planning.
Corporate Counsel
Worked with business owners to establish, run and transition businesses. Representation covers choice of entity, tax strategies, operating agreements, contract review, stock purchase agreements, asset purchase agreements, and general corporate transactions.
Commercial and Residential Real Estate
Assisting individual and corporate clients with real estate transactions including contract drafting and review, 1031 Exchanges, land contract, rental and lease contracts, and commercial and residential real estate litigation.
