Senior Associate Daniel Cameron is driving KY criminal justice reform

In a firm with many rising stars, Senior Associate Daniel Cameron’s trajectory has been impressive. A former Division I athlete and president of the Student Bar Association at UofL’s Brandeis School of Law, Daniel served as legal counsel to Senator McConnell before joining Frost Brown Todd (FBT) in June of 2017.

Both here at the firm and out in the community, Daniel has continued his upward trajectory with two recent and noteworthy accomplishments. First, the Kentucky Narcotics Officers Association presented Daniel with the “2017 Legislative Staffer of the Year Award.” Second, in October, Daniel was named official spokesman for the Kentucky Smart on Crime Coalition. The KY Smart on Crime Coalition draws upon a diverse membership—legal and business professionals as well as faith-based and civil rights advocates—to advocate for common sense reforms to the criminal justice system.

In his capacity as spokesman, Daniel will be an instrumental part of the coalition’s lobbying efforts this legislative session. Thus far the coalition has been successful at getting lawmakers to adopt Senate Bill 120, which will help job seekers with criminal backgrounds find gainful employment, and House Bill 40, which expedites felony expungement for first-time offenders.

Along with his responsibilities as spokesman, Daniel will remain active in FBT’s Business Litigation Practice Group and as a principal at CivicPoint, the firm’s public affairs subsidiary. Given his record thus far, Daniel is an influencer, someone to watch and watch out for, and part of a widening group of young FBT attorneys who’ve been a catalyst for change in the local community.
