Business of Law: The road to partnership at Louisville firms
Sarah Sloan Reeves is a partner in the Lexington office of Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC, one of Louisville’s larger law firms. She’s not a veteran attorney who has slogged her way up through the long and ironclad partner track. Rather, she graduated from the University of Kentucky Law School in 2009, joined the firm in 2010 and was named a partner — or “member” in the parlance of professional limited liability corporations — six years later.
There’s an old rule of thumb about reaching partnership in a law firm — “seven years and up or out.” But is that the case anymore? At SKO and other large Louisville firms, there aren’t as many ironclad rules or set timelines.
