CPSC Announces Early "Soft Launch" of Database

January 21, 2011 By Beth Schneider Naylor, Erika J. Schoenberger

The Consumer Product Safety Commission ("CPSC") announced a "soft launch" of its publicly available Consumer Product Safety Information Database beginning on Monday, January 24, 2011. The official launch of the Database is scheduled for March 1, 2011.

We advise our clients that manufacture, import, or privately label consumer goods to go to the CPSC website and register as soon as possible. Registering will enable the CPSC to communicate with you about any consumer reports filed on your products. Consumer reports submitted to the Database will be publicly posted on the Database within 10 business days of the report being sent to the manufacturer, importer, or private labeler. If your company is not registered, it will hinder your company's ability to respond to the report in a timely fashion.

To register, go to http://www.saferproducts.gov/ and click on the Business Registration button in the upper left corner and follow the prompts to set up your business account. For further information on the CPSC Database or other product liability concerns, you can contact Beth Naylor, Erika Schoenberger, or any other attorney in Frost Brown Todd's Product Liability Practice Group.
