The Law of Commercial Surety and Miscellaneous Bonds

Date May 10-11, 2012
Westin Hotel
Hilton Head Island, SC

The Fidelity and Surety Law Committee 2012 Spring Surety Meeting will return to Hilton Head Island after a 13-year absence. The meeting will be at The Westin Hotel located directly on Hilton Head Beach! The dates of the meeting are May 10-11, 2012. The program will present The Law of Commercial Surety and Miscellaneous Bonds. The Co-Chairs for this year’s program are Sam Arena and Rich Towle. They have worked very hard to put together a great program and, with the help of Bruce King, published a new book to be distributed at the program. The program will be highlighted by two panel discussions on Thursday morning, May 10th. The first panel will be Commercial Surety from the Underwriters’ Perspective. The second panel will be Commercial Surety from the Claims Professionals’ Perspective. We are very fortunate to have two great panels. There will be a breakfast program on Thursday morning on Teaming Agreements, Joint Ventures and Mentor-Protégé arrangements which are becoming more common in federal projects and present unique challenges to sureties in both underwriting and managing the risks. Join the Membership Committee and UPBEAT for a discussion over breakfast!

Frost Brown Todd's David Olson and Paul Haffner of Great American Insurance Co. will speak on Fringe Benefit Bonds.   They will overview fringe benefit bond forms and assess how the form of the bond impacts available coverage and include a discussion of available defenses to fringe benefit bond claims. They also will assess the allocation of claims between and among payment bonds, fringe benefit bonds and other available sources for payment of claims.
